DevOps Engineering Team Manager

This company is an Energy Storage & Optimization Team and are looking for a DevOps Engineering Manager to join their growing software team located in our software development center in Herndon, VA, USA.
This position will be a hybrid model. The candidate will need to come into their Herndon, VA office 2-3 days a week.

This role will focus on information security, data engineering and security application/services development. They are building a well-rounded team of security-focused systems and application engineers to derive insights about our attack surface, analyze our adversaries, and building solutions to counter them to minimize risk and deliver better security outcomes for their group.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Lead their DevOps and Infrastructure team to deliver the next generation energy management system (EMS) software that runs securely in both the cloud and bare-metal hardware at the edge (IoT).
  • Hands on building, securing, and documenting of our Zero-Trust Kubernetes cloud-based mission-critical production environments and tooling hosting environment.
  • Provide support to the on-site commissioning teams to help with network and server troubleshooting to push customer projects over the finish line.
  • Provide best-practices guidance to commissioning teams based on our standard solutions to enable their own self-help.
  • Oversee the selection and training of contractors to support on-site commissioning tasks so we can offload day-to-day issues to them allowing our team to focus on product development.
  • Leadership in technology: guide the team on technology selection, software implementation, integration, testing, release, and deployment.
  • Leadership in Agile development processes: facilitate milestone planning, story boarding, daily stand-up meetings, reviews, and retrospectives. Track and communicate team progress and maintain process documents. Ensure the development teams are practicing the Agile principles.
  • Leadership in organization: recruit, mentor, evaluate performance, reward, and help in their career growth.
  • Contribute to the company vision: participate in product road map planning and technology evaluation.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and collaborate on project discussions.
  • Hands on coding using Go, Python, and Bash programming languages.
  • Architect improvements to our secure software deployment environment and networking infrastructure.
  • Guide the selection and implementation of our monitoring, intrusion detection, anti-virus, and persistent threat analysis systems.
  • Contribute to our site-to-cloud architecture, implementation, and management.
  • Coordinate closely with our project-focused Support Operations Center by providing training, operational support, and feature roadmap development.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Mechanical), or I.T., or equivalent years of industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps Engineering.
  • 2+ years of people management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in Cloud Native technologies (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • 4+ years of Linux system administration experience.
  • 4+ experience with Object oriented programming (Python, Java, Golang, or NodeJS).
  • 4+ Experience using build and deployment tools (Jenkins, Docker).
  • 4+ Experience with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, Redshift).
  • 2+ Experience with deploying clustered web services.
  • 2+ years of experience working within Agile Development Practices.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networks and experience configuring network equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs.
